Hi, I'm Kathy

Why I'm Running

WHY I'M RUNNING

MY PRIORITIES FOR ELMBROOK:

  • Maintain quality curriculum to raise academic scores

  • Ensure age-appropriate educational materials and accessibility

  • Ensure considerations for both past and trending cultural influences

  • Apply balanced and sensible procedural approach to health and science

  • Guarantee responsiveness and accountability to Elmbrook parents and community

ELMBROOK IS MY HOME

My family and I moved to Brookfield three years ago after researching which school districts would be best for our children. Elmbrook’s reputation was stellar. We left the Chicago area after seeing the changes in curriculum which precipitated a drop in educational scores for the children. I have significant concerns that similar ideas have invaded the Elmbrook philosophy. The teachings of the Constitution, American Values, and STEM need to be returned to the forefront, so that Elmbrook can regain its footing as the foundation of this community.

Our children deserve the best education possible to reach their full potential, and to experience it in true partnership with parents and community, based on integrity and accountability that puts kids and families first.

PROTECTING AMERICAN VALUES

I believe in humanity and being kind to all. I believe that American Values, personal accountability, and hard work can allow someone to achieve anything. I believe in instilling respect, love for our nation, knowledge of the Constitution, and the inalienable rights of us all. I believe in parental engagement and parental rights over their children. I believe in high standards, ethics, and integrity to govern us all.

PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN

I have lived the American Dream as an immigrant-naturalized American citizen. All of our children deserve the ability to reach their potential and experience it as well in the highest caliber education system that is in true partnership with parents and community based on integrity and accountability that puts kids and families first.

A Little More About Me

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

WHERE I COME FROM

My story is about sacrifice, education, and hard work. My parents packed up all that we owned and moved my 3 siblings and I from South Korea to Chicago in 1982 to provide us a better education and pursue the American Dream. Hard work, persistence, and personal accountability became the foundation of our family’s success. As we learned English and assimilated into the rich American melting pot of various ethnicities, backgrounds, and life experiences, we created our own American Dream.

MY FAMILY

I am a mother of three student athlete children and a rescued dog Linus. I’m married to a patient man who has supported my career in healthcare leadership for over 10 years.

A THRIVING EDUCATION

Education was a critical part of my youth and led me to be named one of the initial Golden Apple Scholar recipients which is given to future educators. My original intent of becoming a history teacher changed when I fell in love with science. I then became a nurse, specializing in surgery which I have been fortunate to be a practitioner for over 25 years; moving from a staff nurse to a Director of Operations. My philosophy of lifelong learning has remained steady as I cared for patients and empowered teams through knowledge and compassion. Those who worked for me reciprocated to others, thus creating a larger circle of influence that made the community better.

A PROFESSIONAL CAREER

Over the last 10 years in leadership, my focus has always centered around people through continuous quality improvements for patients and my team. In my most recent position as the Director of Operations in Surgical Services, I led a team of 350+ employees, responsible for a $70M+ annual budget and managed a 651 bed, Level 1 Trauma center at the 10th largest healthcare system.

Over the past 2 years, I successfully led a $20 Million Surgery Modernization Construction Project, while taking on leadership with system initiatives to standardize best practices for patients and teams, ensuring quality and safety outcomes.

My Master's degree is in Nursing Executive Leadership, I am certified in Operating Room Nursing, and I am currently completing my Legal Nurse Consultant Certification.

ONGOING EDUCATION FOR KIDS

In partnership with the Wisconsin Workforce Youth Apprenticeship, local colleges, and the Talent Development executive team, I pioneered the Surgical Workforce Pipeline. This unique program offers high school aged students and above, the opportunity to participate in a variety of medical field opportunities.
